The Great Yokai War on DVD
I should remember to check The Great Yokai War out again now that it’s on DVD. I would imagine the special features on the DVD are great.

As Gears of War showed us, you don’t need amazingly new innovative ideas in a game to make it fun to play. So, like Gears, there’s nothing groundbreaking in Lost Planet: Extreme Conditions, it just does everything it sets out to do well with the graphics being exceptional. Speaking of the graphics, the areas look great. Especially the snow covered areas. Later in the game you’ll find yourself saying to yourself “I miss the snow” and that’s despite the impressive lava flowing in massive rivers through the areas.
Of course, the amount of mechs and the fun of piloting them is heads and shoulders above other mech piloting/running around games. Most don’t get the balance of the two right.
Anyway, I should remember to beat that last boss and get some multiplayer in.
OK, I saw Children of Men last week, but had been meaning to post about it because it reminded me that new science fiction movies don’t have to be terrible. I mean this movie was excellent. I loved it. The moodiness, Clive Owen’s character, the fact that Julianne Moore doesn’t mess it up, Michael Caine’s brilliant character and especially the last both visually and audibly amazing sequence that openly assaults your senses forcing you to the edge of your seat. It was fantastic.
Ok, enough good stuff. I hated the scene which paraded around the exact (I mean exact) Abu Grahib imagery we’ve all seen to bludgeon home the point that there were clear similarities between the police state in the film and what’s going on today. Everyone watching the movie had figured that out. It was completely unnecessary and disrupted the mood of the storyline. Just my 2 cents.
Anyway, I should remember to continue having faith in Clive Owen and give new science fiction a chance.

I think this day will go down in history as the day the cellphone industry changed forever. Today, Apple Computer, Inc decided to decimate the competition in the cellphone industry by unveiling the most advanced and gorgeous cellphone, iPod, internet hybrid device ever. EVER.
I can’t wait until June!!!!

Although we rarely go to Broadway shows (or because of this), my lady got me tickets to go see The Vertical Hour for Christmas. We went last Saturday and despite the not-so-hot reviews I’ve read and my sometimes complete dislike for Julianne Moore, I tried to keep an open mind.
The play is basically about the conversations and revelations had by an ex-war correspondent (Moore) on her one night visit to her current boyfriend’s (Andrew Scott) father’s (Nighy) house in a Whales.
I really loved Bill Nighy. He was both sincere and at times hilarious, but unfortunately, I just couldn’t feel anything for Moore’s character. She seemed to beg and plead for the audience to care about her problems and issues, but that may have been part of the problem. She kept saying “I” this and “me” that giving her the appearance of thinking herself so damn important. You just wanted to tell her to get over herself.
In the end, it was a great experience to check out the show and I actually did enjoy myself. I should remember to try checking out some more contemporary theater.
Saw this last night and all I can say is awful, awful, AWFUL. Holy crap this was bad. Robotech was one of my introductions to anime along with Lensman which I actually watched on Spanish TV under the title “Hombre Lente.” Although the Robotech series as Americans know it was mainly a butchered version of the Macross anime with additional completely different series tacked on for additional “generations”, this movie tries to reconcile all that plus the Sentinals stories which I don’t think ever were completely animated. But none of that matters, because this movie is just too terrible for words.
I should remember to at least look into movies a little before buying my tickets. Additionally, I should remember that the sound system at The ImaginAsian Theater sucks terribly.
(Update: Well, looks like the sound system was not to blame. Thanks for the heads up ImaginAsian! Now if only there’s a way for people to know beforehand whether they’ll be able to experience the full force of the ImaginAsian sound system… )
Hmm… Today is January 6th and it’s 70 degrees in New York, the cherry trees are blooming in the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, Saddam’s execution was riddled with actions sure to make him a martyr, the U.S. KIA count from Iraq has surpassed 3,000 (not counting the overlooked tens of thousands of soldiers coming back missing limbs), a 3,000 year old glacier has melted off due to the heat, plus auto-makers are bringing over a dozen new SUVs to the American market in 2007 increasing the number of SUVs offered to a whopping 80 versions!
I should remember that no matter how bad things look, they can always get worse.

Patrick Bennett has a very bad memory. This site serves as a repository for random items he's run across that he should probably remember.
